In a recent interview with CNBC TV18, Ankur Bisen shared his thoughts on the evolving retail landscape and the perceived threat of e-commerce to traditional retail. He highlighted the significant interdependencies between online and offline channels, stating:
“There is no such thing as pure offline, pure online. Many independent retailers that have shops are also resellers on platforms.”
Ankur emphasized that certain retail categories, such as home building materials and jewellery, remain largely untouched by e-commerce, with traditional mom-and-pop stores continuing to dominate these sectors. This, he argues, demonstrates that e-commerce, which currently accounts for only 10% of the total retail market, is not an existential threat to small retailers that some fear.
